Ok, I've been thinking about this for a while now. It seems as if people don't stand up for what they believe in very much any more, I see it a lot on here. even on Graffiti! someone will state and opinion. people will jump on them and then they'll reverse it or appologize for it!
I understand growing, and I myself will change my mind on somethings. but come on folks don't cave, stick up for yourselves even if it's unpopular!
Hmm, interesting question or observation.
Well, a lot of discussions on here specifically seem to be of a very personal nature and I don't believe being condescending or offensive to someone is good or just behavior even if that person has all the reasons for you to act that way and if you are I don't think appologizing for it shows lack of personal integrity. To me that has to do with your stance on issues, not on people. I do a lot to keep the peace though as I do not see how arguing or exchanging insults will resolve anything and I want to be nice to people in general. Sometimes I'm not .. and then if I feel bad about it I do appologize and take the responsibility. If you criticize someone you got to be the bigger person.
When it comes to issues, yeah, political correctness is way to prevelent, it's like you can not have an extreme or unpopular opinion any more. I think having one is fine, as long as you can argue your point and consider other peole's point of view.

In my opinion no people dont stand up for what they believe. Especially when it comes to people taking a stance on a particular subject or lifestyle ect. ect.. Howevre I feel the reason is because they are afriad of how they will be treated by peers and sociaty.
What I find totally remarkable is how people will turn their back onsomeone simply because they dont agree with what someone says.
I do try and stick up for what is right. However I am probably my own worst enemy when it comes to things I stand for. Because I have personally been slammed for things that I believe.
I Absolutely stand up for what I believe, otherwise you are selling out to those who would rather, that you conform to their beliefs. If you are going to stand up for your beliefs, then you must above all, believe in yourself .
yeah, I see what ya mean tn, and brew. but both of you are reasonable. someone like Goblin for example doesn't agree to disagree. but duh, who didn't know that.
I posted a reply to the wully wangles topic the other day, after I posted it I just new I was going to catch hehll about it. but I don't think I have yet. and at the time that's just how I felt!
Sometimes people cannot distinguish between disagreement and personal attack. It is believed if a person disagrees with me, they hate me, and I did not come here to be hated. No, I don't think this way, but I do believe there are just some people who will not even listen to your side of a discussion and will either spout the same recycled crap they spouted, else they will randomly hurl insults just because they want to see you jump and dance like a trained monkey.
yeah... Goblin stands up to what he believes in by putting people on ignore, lol.
Here are a couple of thoughts. I think sometimes people feel they are powerless to change things because those in power want it another way, so there's no use in standing up for what you believe because you can't fight City Hall, so to speak. Also, I think people fear rejection if they dare take a nonmajority opinion. Conform or be cast out and all that, so it's go along to get along.
Labyrinth I agree with your last 2 posts categorically..Whistle blowers often suffer interminably and become social pariahs amongst those they strove to help.
Certainly financial concerns often prevent people from fighting their corner, the cost of suing is frightening..but I applaud those who take on the medical profession for damages and win.
However, I still think dissent can change things. The Disability Rights Act has given disabled people the freedom and means to sue for the lack of accessible buildings and discrimination ect, if the disability rights groups had thrown in the towel, that act, would never have seen the light of day.
I absolutely stand up for what I believe in. I've never been known to back down purely because of pressure that's not my way. and as for goblin, goblin is a wimp, he doesn't stand up for what he believes in, he simply ignores the opposition, that's wimping out in my view.
I stand up for what I believe in.
